First-dance classics that never disappoint; a modern, international selection for multicultural weddings; and songs that kick-start the party after the first dance, keeping guests on the dance floor.

The first dance is a moment that brings the entire room to a standstill. The lights dim, guests pull out their phones, and the newlyweds are left alone on the dance floor. This song becomes the soundtrack to your marriage, which is why you likely give it more thought than almost any other detail. As a band that has performed at hundreds of weddings across Croatia, the wider region, and all over Europe, we know just how difficult this decision can be. That is why we have put together a list of tried-and-true first-dance songs, as well as tracks guaranteed to ignite the party afterward and keep your guests on the dance floor all night long.

Why the first dance is more than just a single song

The first dance is not merely a romantic moment—it also sets the tone for what follows. If the song is too slow, guests will remain in their seats; if it is too high-energy, the emotional resonance may be lost. An ideal first-dance song lasts between three and four minutes and features a recognizable intro and a transition that the band can extend or shorten according to your wishes.

This is precisely where the advantage of a live band shines. A recorded track is fixed in its duration, whereas we work with you to tailor the arrangement, tempo, and the exact moment to invite your guests to join you on the floor. There is no such thing as a poorly executed first dance—only a song that wasn’t carefully planned.

First-dance classics that never disappoint

If you are looking for a reliable choice that transcends fleeting trends, classics remain your best option. These songs are known to all generations, from your grandparents to the youngest guests:

Can't Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley. Arguably the most popular choice for a first dance. It is tender, recognizable from the very first note, and perfect for a slow dance.

At Last – Etta James. For couples who want a touch of elegance and a jazz-inspired vibe. It works beautifully at formal galas and indoor wedding receptions.

The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra. A timeless standard that sounds sophisticated and refined—especially when performed live with piano and guitar.

Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton. Warm, simple, and deeply emotional. An ideal choice if you want your first dance to feel spontaneous rather than choreographed.

A Thousand Years – Christina Perri. A modern classic embraced by both older and younger generations alike.

In addition to these international hits, we also take pride in performing timeless domestic ballads—ranging from traditional *klapa* songs to classic pop hits from the region that have soundtracked weddings for generations. These songs carry a special significance; your guests likely know them by heart, and many may have even shared their own first dance to these very tracks.

A Modern, International Selection for Multicultural Weddings

At weddings that bring together Balkan and Western backgrounds, music becomes a delicate diplomatic balancing act. On one hand, guests may want to hear something familiar and local, while on the other, family members from abroad look for songs that resonate with them personally and emotionally. Our advantage is that we sing in Croatian, German, Italian, Spanish, and English. This means you can plan your first dance in English, followed by a second or third dance in Croatian—or vice versa. Some of our most beautiful performances have been these very combinations:

"Perfect" by Ed Sheeran – in English, serving as an emotional opening for a diverse audience.

"All of Me" by John Legend – a song that resonates equally well with guests from abroad and the local crowd.

"Make You Feel My Love" by Adele – slow and tender, perfect for creating an intimate atmosphere.

A Croatian ballad of your choice, performed live immediately after an English-language first dance—ensuring both sides of the family get their special moment.

If you’re unsure which song to choose, we suggest sending us a list of your favorite artists. Based on that, we will put together a musical arrangement, tailored for either an acoustic performance or a full-band setup.

How to choose a song for your first dance:

Listen to the song together and ask yourselves: can we dance to this without a choreographed routine? If the answer is yes, it’s a great choice.

Check the lyrics. Songs that sound romantic can sometimes contain lyrics with a message that doesn't quite suit you.

Consider the duration. A first dance lasting longer than four minutes may start to lose the guests' attention.

Involve the band early on. The sooner we know your choice, the better we can rehearse it and adjust the key to suit your voices.

Pay attention to the transition. The best first dances conclude with an increase in tempo, inviting guests onto the dance floor.

Songs to energize the atmosphere after the first dance

As soon as the first dance ends, the most important decision of the evening arises: what comes next? Experience has taught us that the safest approach is to start with a song everyone knows, then keep the tempo high.

For a local audience, this usually means evergreen hits from the regional pop and popular music scene—songs that get everyone singing at the top of their lungs. For international guests, we select recognizable hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s—tracks that resonate just as well in Croatia as they do in Austria, Italy, or Spain. This is followed by a set of modern hits for the younger crowd, with a return to the classics whenever the energy levels dip slightly.

The key is for the band to read the audience in real time. We do this all night long—observing who gets up to dance, so choose your band wisely!
